MAY 1ST

In France and in other countries of the world, May 1st is Labour Day. It is the occasion to celebrate important achievements for workers, especially labourers, who demonstrated in the XIXth century to reduce their working time from 10-12 hours to 8 hours a day.

Today, May 1st is official holiday in France and allows workers to take some time to relax and escape everyday stress.

The French school Inflexyon will be closed as well on that day, but it will organise a picnic with its students in the Park de la Tête d’Or.

MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS

http://www.pointsdactu.org/IMG/jpg/musee_des_beaux-arts_com.jpg On April 23rd, the students at Inflexyon will visit the Museum of Fine Arts in Lyon. Situated in the city centre, it gathers lots of wonderful collections from Antiquity to Modern Art. Furthermore, special exhibitions are organised periodically.

For instance, the exhibition on Juliette Récamier will take place until June 29th and will let the students discover the story of this muse and Maecenas of the 19th century, who was a friend of Mme de Staël and Chateaubriand. This exhibition will not only include simple visits, but also other activities, such as readings and movie showing.

EASTER

http://grhomeboy.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/23-03-08_easter.jpg The feast of Easter is celebrated in France and in many other countries of the world. It belongs to Jewish and Christian religious tradition and this year is on April 12th. In the first case, it commemorates the Red Sea’s crossing, in the other, Jesus’ resurrection.

From the commercial and gastronomic point of view, this feast implies the exchange of gifts and the tasting of Easter eggs, the symbols of rebirth and fertility. These are chocolate or sugar eggs containing surprises. Moreover, they are often painted or decorated.

The French school Inflexyon wishes happy Easter to all its students!

APRIL FOOLS’ DAY

http://agencyspy.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/april-fool-illus.jpg On April 1st, French people usually celebrate the so-called April Fools’ Day. They have fun at the expense of their friends by giving them absolutely false news or letting them do absolutely useless things. If they get angry, one word is enough to calm them down: “April fool!”

The origin of these jokes is really obscure. Someone dates it back to the realm of Luis XIII, others to Christian history or to pagan beliefs. No matter the explanation of this tradition, the most important thing is to enjoy this day.

The French school Inflexyon hopes not to receive many jokes from its students…
