In France and in other countries of the world people celebrate Carnival every year. It is a period that starts after Epiphany (on January 6th) and ends on Fat Tuesday (on February 24th this year). This feast celebrates the end of winter and abundance to announce the arrival of the sacrifice preparing to Easter.

Above all on Fat Tuesday, people go out in the streets to dance, to sing, to masquerade, to admire allegorical wagons and parades, to savour crepes, bugnes and beignets. The city of Lyon participates in this event by celebrations in different metropolitan districts.

The French school Inflexyon invites you to enjoy these latest days of feast!

On February 2nd France celebrates Candelmas or the Feast of Flames. It dates back to the polytheistic worship of Romans, who celebrated Lupercus, the god of fertility, and organized a procession with candles. Then the Christians changed the meaning of this feast, which they associated with the purification of the Virgin Mary after the birth of Jesus.

According to the French tradition, crêpes must be prepared on Candelmas day. In order to ward off bad luck, they must be cooked in a pan while keeping a coin in the other hand and then be garnished with sugar, vanilla, chocolate, etc…

The cookery courses at Inflexyon allow you to learn how to prepare crêpes and many other recipes linked with French culture.

LA CHANDELEUR : RELIGION ET CUISINE

http://www.mosaicodiffusion.com/PhotosEvents/chandelles.jpg
